If you’ve never been to a First Nations’powwow, it is definitely an activity for your bucket list! Powwows are celebrations of traditional song, dancing and drumming that makes for a colourful and powerfully moving experience.
The Spirit of the Drum Powwow is an annual event held in Smiths Falls, a two-day celebration that includes traditional food and craft vendors, along with traditional drumming, dancing, and singing. Held on Duck and Turtle Islands on the shores of the Rideau Canal, visitors can learn more about Indigenous culture, and join in the traditional dance and celebrations while First Nations drummers beat out a moving, heartbeat-like rhythm.
The Le Boat seven-night Southern Rideau Cruise starts just steps from this free, fun, family-friendly festival where you are invited to spend a day (or two) before heading out on the water to explore the scenic small towns of Portland and Westport, and all the sights to see along the way.
